FAQ

Q: What makes LRT Products superior to other similar products on the market?

A: Durability is number one. Our main focus is not aftermarket. Aftermarket products in this business do not have to meet any types of durability tests. No other aftermarket company has ever submitted its products to an OEM for tests on leather/vinyl.

We have undergone years testing with Ford, GM, Toyota and DaimlerChrysler. Durability testing equates to a 300 lb. man, wearing jeans, getting in and out of a seat 60,000 times in a 4 day non-stop time frame. Our specifications are zero tolerance for failure.

In order to sell to an Auto Manufacturer or one of its suppliers we have to meet automotive specifications.

The products we sell to you are engineered the same way as those we sell to the OEMs. We take pride in each sale, no matter if it is a 55 gallon drum or a 8 ounce bottle.

All customers are treated the same. If our products fail, for any reason, we want to know and help you fix the problem.

Q: Will LRT Products be beneficial to other surfaces besides leather?

A: Yes. These coatings have been engineered to perform to durability specifications for vinyl as well as leather. We have additives that will enable you to work on carpets, furniture and plastic.

Q: Will LRT Products darken and discolor leather?

A: No. Finished leather has a coating on it. This coating will allow our products to adhere without causing any discoloration over time. Our colors all contain an additive to protect the leather from UV rays and the resulting discoloration.

Semi-Aniline and Aniline leathers may darken if coatings are applied improperly. Please call for technical application service on these products.
Colors will actually lighten when refinishing with our products. Our coatings are engineered this way to bring the gloss to the original standards. All color and gloss levels are computer controlled.

Q: How will the use of LRT Products add to the life of a leather product?

A: Once the leather is refinished according to our instructions, the leather will not fail. These claims can be made due to the amount of actual life testing that has been completed. Not just a lab test but years of actual field tests performed in OEM test cars.

Our products have been tested over a 3-year life cycle or equal to 5 years and 50,000 miles of wear.

Q: Will LRT Products rub off on clothing?

A: No. If applied correctly, according to our instructions, the color will not transfer onto clothing in any weather.

Q: How are LRT Products applied?

A: We prefer to assist you over the phone; however, here are a few simple steps to applying these products.

  1. Sand if needed
  2. Clean the leather or vinyl with our cleaner.
  3. Mix the color or use our pre-matched color.
  4. Mix the 2% crosslinker to the base color.
  5. Apply the product with a brush first for better saturation.
  6. Dry using a typical hair dryer for approximately 3 minutes.
  7. Pour the pre-mixed color into a touch-up spray gun and lightly coat a base spray over the seat.
  8. Dry with the hair dryer for approximately 3 minutes.
  9. Mix in approximately 4% crosslinker to top coat. Spray wet coat 1 or 2 times. You may mix in 1-2% of water if you feel the coating is too thick to spray.
